About Jasmine Powers

Hi folks, I’m Jasmine Powers, the owner of J Powers Marketing & Publicity LLC, parent company of Ambitious Diva! My main goal when I started my business back in 2007 was to provide administrative and marketing solutions to small businesses as a virtual assistant. I had nearly ten years experience in content management, public relations, digital marketing, graphic design and event planning at the time I started my business, so I immediately found customers and started what has been an exciting journey through entrepreneurship.

I had one of my biggest breakthroughs was in 2009 when I landed a celebrity client through Twitter. From that moment forward, I realized there was more power to social media than I’d believed before and as a result, I started shifting my focus on providing digital marketing solutions including social media marketing, blogging, email marketing, affiliate marketing, and graphic design. Who knew that making that shift from virtual assistant to a marketing consultant would open up so many opportunities?

But my journey just doesn’t stop. In January 2011, during a large Twitter chat about women caring for their naturally curly and kinky hair, I got the bright idea to start a literal parade and tweeted my idea. After much encouragement I decided to move forward but in June 2011, I gave a knock-out event to support the marketing efforts of Carol’s Daughter and it become clear to me that like most businesses, I needed to evolve and build a scalable business. I then turned Natural Hair Parade (not affiliated with Isis Brantley) into a marketing solution for beauty brands. Two years into it and I have produced beauty events with the support of Curls, Beautiful Textures, Sof n’free and countless other beauty brands and media sponsors. A tweet had not only catapulted my virtual assistance practice into a profitable marketing consulting business, but it become the launchpad of a totally new business.

In the five years that I’ve been cheer leading for other businesses, I have worked with actress/comedienne Kim Coles, model and former Maybelline spokeswoman, Tomiko Fraser Hines, consulted with Texture Media, and supported Blogging While Brown and have worked with a host of other professional speakers, authors, organizations, and other businesses both large and small. I am the director of Love & Beauty Unconference as well as the founder of beauty events company Natural Hair Parade, a subsidiary of JPMP that provides marketing solutions through event marketing and PR, and the founder of the empowerment community and success coaching practice, Ambitious Diva.

I even sit on the board of the Independent Writers Organization of Southern California where I provide social media classes and offer technical and communications support. Also, I’m on the advisory board for Duke Media Foundation, the grassroots youth education program of renowned actor and director, Bill Duke. My gift for creative thinking, strategic planning and savvy communication has allowed me to create exciting grassroots and viral campaigns and aid my clients building fantastic businesses and amazing marketing and PR campaigns.

Again, I see the need to evolve and I find that what many businesses need, more than costly marketing solutions is already-been-proven techniques for launching and growing a business, fresh insights on how to approach problems that are hanging up personal or professional improvement, and a humorous and engaging accountability partner to crack the whip to help them reach their goals and cheer them on once they win big!
